Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is one of the best gorilla trekking locations in Africa, located in the southwestern part of. The Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is famous for its hillsides which are mist-covered, encompassing an impenetrable forest teeming with incredible diversity such as birds, gorillas, insects, and several other small mammals. Mountain Gorilla Trekking

The best safari activity at Bwindi is “gorilla tracking” and there are 20 habituated families of mountain gorillas. Mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi involves hiking through the forest, navigating the challenging terrain, and thick vegetation to search for mountain gorillas. During the trek, you’ll also encounter birds, butterflies, and other primates.

During the gorilla tracking, you will encounter a gorilla family and spend an hour observing the Gorillas in their natural habitat. Only individuals above 15 years are eligible for mountain gorilla trekking in Uganda.

Bird watching in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Besides Gorilla trekking, Bwindi is also a great birding destination in Uganda. Bird watching in Bwindi is a truly rewarding experience as the park hosting over 350 bird species, including more than 20 Albertine Rift endemics. Bwindi’s dense rainforest, varied altitudes, and rich plant diversity create ideal habitats for an impressive range of birds. Some of the top species witnessed in the park include; the African green broadbill, Shelley’s crimsonwing, handsome francolin, Rwenzori nightjar, and many colorful sunbirds. Guided birding tours in Bwindi lead visitors along forest trails and through quiet clearings, offering excellent opportunities for sightings and photography.

ACCESS

The Road from Kabale passes through the eastern edge of the forest, affording some magnificent views. The park headquarters, and entrance, are at Buhoma. Four-wheeled drive is required.
