Detailed 14 Days Rwanda & Tanzania Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali
Upon arrival, you’ll be received and welcomed by our representative at Kigali International Airport from where you’ll be transferred to you hotel in Kigali City. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 2: Travel to Volcanoes National Park for gorilla trekking Safari
Today you’ll be picked up at your hotel. Y1`ou will then enjoy a brief city tour of Kigali, visiting key historical and cultural landmarks such as the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre, local craft markets, the Kandt National Museum, and the Presidential Museum, time permitting. After exploring some of these sites, you will have lunch at a restaurant in the city, with options for local cuisine or continental dishes based on your preference—be sure to inform your driver-guide so the most suitable restaurant can be selected. Following lunch, you will depart Kigali and travel to Volcanoes National Park, home to the magnificent mountain gorillas.
Day 3: Gorilla Tracking in Volcanoes National Park
After an early morning breakfast, you will set out for your gorilla trekking adventure. Your driver-guide will transfer you to the briefing point, where a ranger guides will explain gorilla trekking rules and what to expect during the trek. As you wait for all participants to assemble, you will be welcomed with Rwandan hospitality, including traditional dances and freshly prepared local coffee. The ranger guide will then share important trekking guidelines, such as avoiding flash photography, before assigning you to different gorilla families. Depending on the location of your allocated gorilla group, you will be driven to the appropriate trailhead to begin the trek.
In the afternoon, you may relax and recover from the trekking experience or choose an optional activity such as visiting the Musanze Caves or exploring the Twin Lakes.
Day 4: Golden Monkey
After an early morning breakfast, your naturalist guide will transfer you to the park headquarters, just as on the previous day. There, you will receive a briefing from a ranger guide about what to expect during your time in the park. Golden monkeys are typically more active than gorillas, so you may need to keep moving as you follow them while they feed. Once you locate the monkeys, you are permitted to spend one hour observing them before departing the area.
Day 5: Transfer to Kigali and proceed to Arusha
Today you transfer to the airport and leave for Arusha. You will be picked up from the airport at Kilimanjaro international airport and transferred to your hotel in Arusha.
Day 6: Transfer to Serengeti
After breakfast, you will depart the lodge and drive via the Ngorongoro Crater toward Serengeti National Park. Leaving the highlands behind, you descend into the iconic Serengeti, renowned for its vast, seemingly endless plains stretching as far as the eye can see. Along the way, you will visit a Maasai Boma, where you can experience the Maasai people’s traditional dances and may even have the opportunity to participate. The journey then continues to the central region of the park, known as the Seronera area, one of the most wildlife-rich zones in the Serengeti. This area is centered around the Seronera River, an important water source that attracts a wide variety of wildlife representing many of the park’s species.
Day 7 & 8: Full Day Game drive
You will start early with a morning game drive, when the soft light of sunrise illuminates animals grazing and predators may still be active before settling down for the day. Sunrise in the Serengeti is truly unforgettable and offers exceptional opportunities for photography during this magical time. You may choose to return to your lodge for a hot lunch or enjoy a packed lunch at one of the park’s scenic picnic sites. After lunch, you will continue with another game drive. As evening approaches, keep a lookout for lions.
Cheetahs are often seen on the open plains during the early morning and late afternoon when temperatures are cooler, as they depend on daylight and speed to hunt. Large pods of hippos can be spotted in rivers and pools, while crocodiles are frequently observed basking along the riverbanks.
Day 9: Transfer to Ngorongoro
You will have breakfast and then check out and drive via Ngorongoro to Karatu, enjoy the varied landscape.
Day 10: Game drive in Ngorongoro Crater
After an early breakfast, your guide will collect you and drive to the Ngorongoro Crater. Following check-in, you will descend approximately 600 meters into the crater for a full-day game drive. Thanks to its year-round water supply and abundant grazing, the Ngorongoro Crater is home to an impressive diversity of wildlife, including large herds of wildebeest, zebras, buffaloes, elands, warthogs, hippos, and massive African elephants. The crater is also renowned for its high concentration of predators, such as lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs, and the elusive leopard, which can be challenging to spot without a keen eye. During the drive, you will visit Lake Magadi, a shallow alkaline lake located in the southwestern part of the crater and one of its key highlights. This area is often inhabited by large numbers of flamingos, hippos, and a variety of other water birds.
Day 11: Transfer to Arusha – Zanzibar
Afternoon transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport/Arusha Airport for your flight to Zanzibar.
Day 12 & 13: Zanzibar Beach & Water experiences
Spend the days at leisure at theyour resort. You can also choose to take on some of the different water activities offered by the resorts depending on your interests. This would be settled privately by you.
Day 14: Departure
Today after breakfast and depending on the time of your flight, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight home.
