Detailed 13 Days Tanzania Migration and Uganda Gorilla Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive Arusha, Tanzania
Arrive in Arusha via Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to a renowned lodge nestled within lush tropical gardens on a coffee estate just outside the city. The lodge offers twelve elegant garden cottages, thoughtfully designed with a distinctive blend of African art and craftsmanship paired with classic colonial-style luxury. After checking into your room, you may unwind on your private veranda or in the main lodge. Later in the evening, you will enjoy a welcome dinner, during which our head guide will provide an overview of your upcoming journey.
Day 2: Transfer to Tarangire National Park
After breakfast, check out of your room and set off for Tarangire National Park, a scenic wilderness characterized by open grasslands, acacia trees, and the Tarangire River. Upon arrival, you will check in at Tarangire Treetops, peacefully located along the edge of the national park. Each of the 20 elevated rooms is built above the ground and features a private balcony with sweeping views across the surrounding marula and baobab trees. You will enjoy a welcome lunch before heading out on an afternoon game drive to spot wildlife such as giraffes, waterbucks, zebras, elephants, hartebeest, gazelles, and a variety of birdlife, including the impressive martial eagle.
Day 3: Abundant Game Viewing in Tarangire National Park
Enjoy guided game drives in the morning and afternoon, offering opportunities to encounter a wide variety of wildlife. The day concludes with a complimentary sundowner in the wild, followed by dinner and a night game drive. This nighttime adventure provides an excellent chance to observe nocturnal animals such as the African wildcat and the elusive leopard, and you may also witness lions and hyenas on their hunt. Overnight stay at Tarangire Treetops.
Day 4: Transfer to Ngorongoro Crater
Checkout after breakfast and cross the Great Rift Valley where the Ngorongoro Conservation Area sits. As you enter the Ngorongoro, you will be welcomed by Maasai “enkangs” (homesteads). Brace yourself for a thrilling cultural and wildlife experience in this natural ring of Ngorongoro Crater, a 2,000-foot- deep caldera. It offers a fascinating miniature of East African wildlife; including buffalo, flamingos, lions and leopards.
Later in the day, you will check in at Ngorongoro Crater Lodge, an elegant getaway that is perched on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, giving unmatched views.
Day 5: Game Drives in Ngorongoro Crater
Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater to discover a remarkable natural wildlife sanctuary. Many animals spend their entire lives within this intact caldera. Observe zebras, wildebeests, and gazelles grazing together, while herds of buffalo, elephants, and rhinos roam freely. Spot hippos relaxing in the waterholes, where lions often lie in wait for their prey. Approach the lake to see flamingos feeding and playing in their natural habitat. In the evening, visit a Maasai village to experience the tribe’s rich cultural traditions, nomadic way of life, and how they live in harmony with the surrounding wildlife. Day 6: Transfer to Serengeti National Park
Check out and drive to the Serengeti, a vast expanse of open plains where lions, hyenas, and leopards roam freely. In the evening, enjoy a cultural visit to a Maasai village, guided by a local expert who will introduce you to Maasai traditions and way of life. Arrive in time for a lunch, featuring a wine tasting in the lodge’s temperature-controlled cellar. Spend the afternoon relaxing in the spa or you may wish to head out on a game drive before dinner.
Day 9: Full Day Game Drives in Grumeti Reserve
Enjoy morning and evening game drives across the expansive plains of the private Singita conservancy, offering exclusive wildlife encounters and a private view of the Great Migration. With the river and plains so nearby, you’ll have a rare chance to experience an intimate connection with the wilderness. Conclude the day with a sundowner before returning to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay at Singita Faru Faru.
Day 10: Transfer to Arusha & Depart
After a leisurely breakfast, you will be transferred to the nearby airstrip for a chartered flight to Arusha, connecting to a short flight onward to Entebbe, Uganda. Upon arrival in Entebbe, you will be taken to the Lake Victoria Serena Hotel. Designed to resemble a pastel-hued Italian hillside village, the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort & Spa is one of Uganda’s standout hotels. Nestled among terraced rose gardens above its own marina on the sparkling waters of Lake Victoria, it offers more than just a typical hotel experience. You will have uninterrupted time to relax before joining a group dinner in the evening, during which a full orientation for the tour will be provided.
Day 11: Fly to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
After a leisurely breakfast, transfer to the airstrip for a flight to Kisoro, where our guide will meet you and escort you to Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge. This elegant lodge is perched on a forested ridge near the entrance to the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, offering breathtaking views of the dormant Virunga volcanoes. Each of the eight cottages includes a bedroom, an ensuite bathroom with a walk-in shower, and a separate lounge. The comfortable chairs on the outdoor verandas provide an ideal spot to take in the unforgettable panoramas of the forest below.
Day 12: First Mountain Gorilla Tracking Experience
Following an early morning breakfast at your lodge, depart for the park headquarters. Join other visitors for a gorilla trekking briefing, you’ll be given all the necessary information about gorilla trekking; the dos and don’ts regarding your gorilla trekking. After briefing session, you’ll be allocated a gorilla family to trek.
Its time to delve into the jungle to search for the endangered gorillas in their natural habitat. Although the trek is really challenging, you are guaranteed of finally locating the gorillas in their natural habitat and this will simply make you forget the hustle you went through to get to them. After locating the gorillas, you will spend about one full hour thrilled and observing the gorillas, there are plenty of opportunities to take photos and film for memories.
Later after trekking, return to the park headquarters from where you proceed to your lodge for relaxation and if you wish you can go for a community visit or cultural tour to find out how the locals live and to enjoy cultural performances.
Day 13: Fly to Entebbe and Depart
Today concludes your safari adventure. After breakfast, your guide will take you to Kisoro airstrip for a pre-arranged chartered flight to Entebbe. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to Boma Hotel, where a day room is available for you to relax and freshen up while awaiting your departing flight.
