Detailed 9 Days Uganda Wilderness Expedition Itinerary

Day 1 – From Entebbe to the Beautiful Foothills of Mount Elgon

Your Ugandan adventure begins after breakfast when your private safari guide welcomes you in Entebbe or Kampala. Leaving the bustling city behind, the landscape gradually transforms into lush countryside dotted with villages, sugar plantations, tea estates, and vibrant roadside markets.

As you drive eastwards, Mount Elgon slowly appears on the horizon, its ancient volcanic slopes dominating the skyline. Arrive in Sipi during the afternoon, where cool mountain air and breathtaking scenery immediately replace the city’s pace.

Spend the remainder of the day exploring the famous Sipi Falls, where three spectacular waterfalls tumble down steep cliffs surrounded by coffee plantations and panoramic viewpoints. The peaceful atmosphere provides the perfect introduction to Uganda’s remarkable natural beauty.

Day 2 – Across Uganda to Africa’s Most Remote Safari Destination

Wake up to spectacular mountain views before enjoying breakfast overlooking the valleys below Mount Elgon.

Today’s journey takes you through the changing landscapes of northeastern Uganda. As the fertile hills give way to open plains, traditional manyattas begin to appear, introducing you to the fascinating Karamoja region.

The scenery becomes increasingly wild as you approach Kidepo Valley National Park, one of Africa’s last truly untouched wilderness areas. Few visitors make it this far, making every wildlife encounter feel remarkably exclusive.

Arrive in time to relax at your lodge while watching wildlife wander across the surrounding savannah.

Day 3 – Discover the Untamed Wilderness of Kidepo Valley

Rise early for an unforgettable safari in Uganda’s most spectacular national park.

Golden morning light illuminates endless grasslands framed by distant mountain ranges stretching into South Sudan and Kenya. Large herds of buffalo, elephants, giraffes, zebras, and antelopes roam freely across the plains, while lions often patrol the valleys searching for prey.

Unlike many African parks, Kidepo offers an incredible sense of solitude. It is possible to spend hours exploring without encountering another safari vehicle.

During the afternoon, visit a traditional Karamojong community to learn about one of East Africa’s oldest pastoral cultures. Their traditions, colorful attire, and fascinating history provide a memorable cultural experience before returning to your lodge.

Day 4 – Journey to the Mighty Nile

After breakfast, begin your scenic drive southwest towards Murchison Falls National Park.

The journey crosses northern Uganda’s wide-open landscapes before reaching the country’s largest protected area. As you enter the park, wildlife sightings often begin immediately, with giraffes, elephants, and Uganda kob grazing near the roads.

Settle into your lodge overlooking the Nile River and enjoy a relaxing evening surrounded by the sounds of the African wilderness.

Day 5 – Safari, Nile Cruise & The World’s Most Powerful Waterfall

Today showcases everything that makes Murchison Falls unforgettable.

An early morning game drive offers excellent opportunities to spot lions, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, leopards, hyenas, and numerous antelope species before temperatures rise.

Later, board a boat for one of Africa’s finest wildlife cruises. As you navigate upstream along the Victoria Nile, enormous crocodiles bask along the banks while pods of hippos wallow in the water. Numerous elephants, buffaloes, and waterbucks gather at the river’s edge to drink.

The cruise concludes beneath the spectacular Murchison Falls, where the Nile forces itself through a narrow rocky gorge before crashing forty-three meters below. Complete the experience with a guided hike to the top of the falls for unforgettable panoramic views.

Day 6 – Into Uganda’s Primate Capital
